International Journal of Testing Call for Proposals:
Special Issue on the Use of Technology for Assessment in Organizational, Psychological, or Educational Research and Applications

The editor and associate editors of the International Journal of Testing (IJT) are announcing a call for proposals for articles to be published in a special issue on “the use of technology for assessments in organizational, psychological, or educational research and applications”, which we aim to publish in early 2021.

For this special issue, we are inviting manuscripts that focus on new approaches to assessment that utilize technology such as artificial intelligence (including machine learning and natural language processing), games/gamification, electronic sensors, or any other form of technology outside traditional testing. All papers should explain the technology, its advantages and disadvantages, and, ideally, demonstrate the efficacy of the approach in a way that is accessible to a broad audience. Regardless of whether a paper includes data, it should discuss how the traditional notions of reliability and validity in The Standards for Psychological and Educational Testing (“The Standards”; AERA/APA/NCME, 2014) do or do not apply when evaluating the assessment approach and inferences based on the scores.

Potential paper topics for this special issue include, but are not limited to a:
· Review of an existing methodology and how a new technology can address its limitations; or, alternatively, a critical review of a new technology in comparison with current/traditional forms of assessment.
· “How to” guide that discusses best practices for applying a new technology with an empirical example illustrating its efficacy or predictive utility.
· Demonstration of a newer technological approach to answer a substantive research question, and potential uses of the approach for advancing practice in educational, psychological, or organizational settings.

Proposals will be evaluated based on:
· Novel explanation of current and new methodologies and their application to research and practice
· Discussion of implications for theory, application, and future research
· Unique contributions to and fit with the special issue
· Quality, rigor, and clarity of the submission
· Appropriateness and accuracy of the analyses or analytic recommendations
· Viability of the project and timeline

Proposals should be no more than 7 pages (double spaced, including references) and include:
1. Rationale for the article
2. Summary of relevant background on the methodology in focus
3. Summary of the proposed article’s focus, structure, and contribution
4. Summary of the authors’ planned approach to achieving their goals

Please note: Proposals longer than 7 pages (double spaced) will not be considered.

Important Dates
Deadline for proposals: January 31, 2020 (submit as a regular manuscript with a cover letter requesting consideration for the Special Issue on New Technology for Assessment)
Decisions on proposals sent to authors: March 15, 2020
Full paper submission deadline: June 30, 2020
