Prof. Dave Bartram

Prof. Dave Bartram

Dave Bartram is Past President of the International Test Commission and is heading ITC projects on international guidelines for standards in test use and standards for computer-based testing and the Internet. He is President-elect of IAAP Division 2 and Chair of the British Psychological Society's Steering Committee on Test Standards. He is leading a European working party on the harmonization of test user

qualifications across Europe.

Dave is Research Director for SHL Group plc. Prior to his appointment with SHL in 1998, he was Dean of the Faculty of Science and the Environment, and Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychology at the University of Hull. He is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist, Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS), and a Fellow of the Ergonomics Society.

He has worked as a consultant with a range of national and international organizations both in the UK and abroad, specializing in the design, implementation and validation of assessment procedures and personnel selection systems at all levels. His specialist area is computer-based testing and Internet assessment systems.

Fanny Cheung received her B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, and her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. She was Dean of the Faculty of Social Science and currently is Professor of Psychology and Chairperson of the Department of Psychology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Professor Cheung is past president of the Hong Kong Psychological Society, a past President of the

Division of Clinical and Community Psychology of the International Association of Applied Psychology, and a Fellow of the American Psychological Association.

Zimbabwe 's Educational Foundations Department. Elias Mpofu is the representative for sub-Saharan Africa on the Executive Committee of the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology, and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Psychology in Africa.

 

Robert J. Sternberg

Robert J. Sternberg is IBM Professor of Psychology and Education and Director of the Center for the Psychology of Abilities, Competencies, and Expertise at Yale University. Professor Sternberg received the Ph.D. from Stanford University and the B.A. from Yale University. He holds honorary doctorates from the Complutense University of Madrid, Spain; the University of Leuven, Belgium; the University of Cyprus; and the University of Paris V, France. Professor Sternberg is the author of over 950 journal articles, book

chapters, and books, and has received over $18 million in government and other grants and contracts for his research. Professor Sternberg is the 2003 President of the American Psychological Association. He has been President of the Divisions of General Psychology, Educational Psychology, Psychology and the Arts, and Theoretical and Philosophical Psychology of the APA and has served as Editor of the Psychological Bulletin and is Editor of Contemporary Psychology.

Barbara M. Byrne Ph.D. Professor Emeritus

Workshop Title:
Seeking Equitable Assessment Through Tests for Multigroup Invariance

Brief Biographical Statement:
Barbara M. Byrne is Professor Emeritus in the School of Psychology at the University of Ottawa, Canada. Dr. Byrne's research focuses on construct validation issues related to the structure and measurement of self-concept, burnout, and depression. Methodologically, her research centers on the sound application of structural equation modeling (SEM) in the validation of measuring instruments and psychological constructs. She has conducted 40 workshops related to the application of SEM and is the author of four popular introductory books on the topic, the most recent of these being Structural Equation Modeling with AMOS; Basic Concepts, Applications, and Programming (2001). In addition to the publication of 11 book chapters and more than 65 articles, most of which have addressed SEM application issues, Dr Byrne is the author of an important reference book related to self-concept measurement, Measuring Self-concept Across the Lifespan: Issues and Instrumentation (1996). She is the recipient of three Distinguished Teaching Awards presented by the Canadian Psychological Association (1995), the American Psychological Association (APA; 2002), and the APA, Division 5 (Jacob Cohen Award; 2002). Dr. Byrne is a Fellow in the APA, is a Foundation member on the International Board of the SELF Research Centre, University of Western Sydney, Australia, and is an elected member of the Society of Multivariate Experimental Psychology. She currently serves as one of two APA representatives on the Joint Committee for Testing Practices, is a member of the APA Committee on Psychological Tests and Assessment, is the Treasurer for both the International Test Commission and Division 5 of the APA, and holds memberships in the APA and International Association of Cross-cultural Psychology.

Critical Issues When Conducting Psychoeducational Assessments on English Language Learners

 

Brief Biographical Statement:
Dr. Salvador Hector Ochoa received his doctorate in school psychology from Texas A&M University in 1989. Dr. Ochoa is an Associate Professor at Texas A&M University. Dr. Ochoa's research has focused on bilingual assessment, social status, and educational programming issues for Hispanic students. He has obtained more than 3.3 million dollars in grants to sponsor and facilitate his research and training activities. Dr. Ochoa has conducted workshops on bilingual assessment in 15 states, and he is on the editorial boards of the School Psychology Review, Journal of Psychoeducational Assessment, and School Psychology Quarterly. He has received two teaching awards while at Texas A&M.

Brief Biographical Statement:
Peter K. Isquith, Ph.D. is a pediatric neuropsychologist at Dartmouth Medical School where he is engaged in clinical practice with children and adolescents. His research interests focus on measurement and development of self-regulation across the age spectrum and implications of executive deficits for everyday functioning. He has a special interest in neuropsychological assessment in deaf individuals. Dr. Isquith is the co-author of the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function.

Brief Biographical Statement:
Dr. Lichtenberger is a licensed clinical psychologist in California who trained under the tutelage of Drs. Nadeen and Alan Kaufman. She is a consultant at the Laboratory for Cognitive Neuroscience of The Salk Institute and has written several books and book chapters on a variety of assessment instruments. Her writing has focused on the K-ABC, KAIT, WAIS-III, WISC-III, WPPSI-III, and WMS-III, as well as case report documentation. She is also a co-author of the forthcoming book on the KABC-II, Essentials of KABC-II Assessment.

Brief Biographical Statement:
Thomas Oakland is Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Florida. He is President of the International Foundation for Children's Education and past-presidents of the International School Psychology Association and the International Test Commission. He has worked in more than 40 countries. Dr. Oakland is the recipient of Distinguished Service Awards from American Psychological Association's Division of School Psychology and the International School Psychology Association, the 2002 National Association of School Psychology's Legend Award, and the 2003 APA Award for Distinguished Contributions to the Advancement of Psychology Internationally.

The Stanford-Binet Fifth Edition Nonverbal IQ with Diverse Populations

 

Brief Biographical Statement:
Dr. Roid is currently Visiting Professor and, formerly, Scholar in Residence at Simpson College and Graduate School in California. He was previously Dunn Professor of Educational and Psychological Assessment at Peabody College of Vanderbilt University, and formerly a Professor of Psychology at George Fox University and an Assistant Professor of Psychology at McGill University. He was Senior Project Director for The Psychological Corporation, where he was the initial project director for the WISC-III and related tests (e.g., WIAT, WPPSI-R, WAIS-III). He also was Director of Research for Western Psychological Services in Los Angeles.

Dr. Roid earned an A.B. from Harvard University and his Ph.D. in psychological assessment and from the University of Oregon, 1969. He is the author or co-author of 5 published tests, 2 books, 8 book chapters, more than 20 research articles in refereed journals, and more than 50 refereed convention papers at APA, AERA, NCME, NASP, and other professional conferences. He has been a technical consultant for more than 40 published tests and manuals. He is a Fellow of Division 5, of the American Psychological Association, and Consulting Editor for Applied Measurement in Education. He received a Diplomate designation by the American Board of Assessment Psychology in 1996.

The Neuropsychological Assessment Battery

 

Brief Biographical Statement:
Dr. Robert Stern is Associate Professor of Neurology, Associate Director of the Clinical Core of the federally-funded Alzheimer's Disease Center (ADC), and Co-Director of the Memory Assessment Clinics at Boston University (B.U.) School of Medicine. Prior to joining the faculty at B.U., he was on the faculty at Brown Medical School from 1993-2003, where he was Associate Professor of Psychiatry & Neurology and Director of Neuropsychology and the Memory and Cognitive Assessment Program at Rhode Island Hospital. He has published extensively on various aspects of neuropsychological assessment and is the author of two previously published instruments ( Visual Analog Mood Scales; Boston Qualitative Scoring System for the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure ), in addition to the more recent NAB. Other areas of funded research include neuropsychological and neuropsychiatric aspects of dementia, thyroid-brain relationships, and cognition and HIV-associated CNS disturbance. He has received several NIH and other national and local grants. Dr. Stern has published over 180 journal articles, chapters, and abstracts, is the recipient of many awards and honors, and is a Fellow of both the American Neuropsychiatric Association and the National Academy of Neuropsychology. He has served on several national grant review committees, and is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences.

Brief Biographical Statement:
Bruno D. Zumbo is currently Professor of Measurement and Statistics at the University of British Columbia (UBC). His research interests are in psychometric models and methods, and statistical theory and practice. He has published extensively on theoretical and practical matters in measurement invariance and on latent variable models. In addition to an active scholarly research program he is an award-winning teacher having been honored in 1998 with the University-wide Excellence in Teaching Award. He has been a consultant for a number of organizations including the Canadian Department of National Defense, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Graduate Management Admission Council in the United States.  He is editor of the International Journal of Testing and Associate Editor of the Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods.
