Target audience

In view of the vision of the project, it is anticipated that the target audience will largely be students and lecturers, especially in developing countries. It is thus likely that many of the people who read these short manuscripts will not be native speakers of English.

Consequently, the authors have taken special care to cater for 2nd/3rd language English speakers by conveying information as clearly as possible, using language that is pitched at readable and comprehensible levels, using everyday vocabulary and terminology where possible as well as easy to read sentence structures. However, specialized terms in the field of psychometrics, testing, and assessment need to be included in the readings. Where unfamiliar or complex terminology is used, every attempt has been made to explain them in accessible, everyday language, to reinforce them through practical examples or further explanations, and to give readers the opportunity to test whether they have understood key concepts by providing questions at the end of the reading.

It is also probable that readers who access the readings will differ in terms of their knowledge with respect to testing and assessment. Some may be young students who are taking their first course in measurement and evaluation, while others may be more experienced psychometricians who want to access a reading for research purposes or to assist them in their clinical practice. To best cater for the wide diversity of readers, three readership levels are offered: an introductory, an intermediate and an advanced level. At the start of each reading, an indication is provided regarding the suggested readership level.
