ORTA and the Aims of the International Test Commission (ITC)

The ITC provides a forum for practitioners, researchers, and academics across the world to discuss mutual matters pertaining to testing and assessment in the fields of psychology and education in particular and to develop and disseminate best practice guidelines with a view to enhancing testing practices throughout the world.

According to clause 2 of the Constitution of the ITC, ITC will facilitate the exchange of information among members and will further their cooperation on problems and issues related to the construction, distribution, and use of psychological tests and other methods that assess important personal qualities.

To achieve these aims, ITC will :

• organize international meetings and discussions;
• promote the publication of relevant information by means of its own and other publication outlets;
• stimulate international cooperation on research projects relevant to a scientifically and ethically sound use of test;
• be available to act as an intermediary in international negotiations concerning the publication and marketing of tests;
• advance professional development and work to raise standards governing test development and use.

The ORTA project is embedded in the aims of the ITC in that the readings facilitate the publication and sharing of information (knowledge and best practices) in the field of testing and assessment with as wide an audience as possible given that the readings are available on the world-wide web.
